Contemporary deck design inspiration; this is not an HDPE or specialty-product sample.
Wood-free plastic lumber
HDPE plastic lumber is a separate category from wood-fiber composite and PVC. Its suitability, support requirements and movement details depend on the actual product. Confirm whether the quoted product is intended for residential decking, marine work or another use.
Other specialty names you may encounter
Specialty products may include fiberglass-reinforced grating, fiber-cement boards, rice-husk composite and modular deck tiles. These names describe different products and assemblies, not substitutes that can be installed by the same method. Request intended-use documentation and a complete specification.
Check the supporting assembly
Clip-together wood, composite, rubber or porcelain tiles are a finish layer, not a repair for a failing structure or a replacement waterproofing design. Ask about drainage, door clearances, slip guidance, wind exposure and the suitability of the surface beneath them.
Questions worth asking
Is all plastic decking PVC?
No. PVC, HDPE and various composite products are distinct categories. Ask which resin or material family the exact product uses.
Does a recycled-content claim prove suitability?
No. Ask for the product specification, installation guidance and any claimed certification separately.
